Economic Reports

Three reports have been produced for this study on the six provincial cities in South Australia. This first report, Provincial Cities: A Statistical Overview of Socio-Economic Trends 1986-1996 examines economic, demographic and social changes within each of the cities since 1986.

This is the second report in a series of three on the six major provincial cities in South Australia. This report traces recent developments, specifically trends in employment, investment and growth opportunities, in each of the cities. It is based on survey work and questionnaire responses in each of the cities to reflect what the cities say, and includes the views of major stakeholders and residents of each of the cities.

This report does not seek to provide a 'wish list' of projects or programs that may be implemented by the Provincial Cities or the State government. That is not the purpose of the report and in fact, development projects are currently being negotiated and implemented by the cities and the State Government. Notwithstanding, the principal purpose here, is to present the case for a more serious response to the problems and issues that are confronting the Provincial Cities and to outline more appropriate mechanisms to address these problems.

This publication presents a statistical summary of key economic and social information for the Southern Flinders Ranges (SFR) region and South Australia (SA).

Prepared for PIRSA Rural Solutions as a contribution to the project; Facilitating the Development of the Northern Agricultural Districts Rural Plan.

The Northern Agricultural Districts Rural Plan encompasses the Regional Council areas of Wakefield, Northern Areas, Port Pirie and Mount Remarkable. The region is located on the eastern side of Spencer Gulf, north of Adelaide. This represents an area of 11,659 square kilometres. The area is serviced by the Port Pirie, Yorke and Mid North Regional Development Boards and is in the Federal Electorates of Grey and Wakefield, and State Electorates of Frome, Goyder and Stuart. This report provides an in depth look at various aspects of the region including natural features, demographics and economic structure.

The aim of the Regional Scorecards is to provide a better understanding of how the food and beverage industries contribute to a regional economy, and from this, how existing and emerging production capabilities and opportunities can be identified. Resource & Mineral Industry

The Upper Spencer Gulf Common Purpose Group presented a paper at the 2003 SA Resources & Energy Investment Conference. This paper reinforced the strategies and capabilities of the three Regional Development Boards in the Upper Spencer Gulf to attract and assist potential resource development projects.

The Port Pirie Regional Development Board has embraced the Australian Light Metals Action Agenda in its strategy for regional development in the Upper Spender Gulf region of South Australia. The strategy which capitalises on the competitive advantages of the Upper Spencer Gulf has been formulated in several distinct stages that can be developed sequentially over several years. The strategy is based the emerging magnesium and mineral sands processing capabilities of the region and ultimately on the metallurgical linkages that exist between titanium metal, titanium oxide and magnesium processing. It has the potential also to reactivate the previous interest shown in the early 1990s in titanium oxide production.

Small Business Fact Sheets

Department of Trade and Economic Development are offering a range of practical workshops to develop existing small businesses.

The Upper Spencer Gulf Common Purpose Group funded a program to assist businesses in the region with human resource issues. Information kits on 19 Human Resource Issues are available from the Business Adviser at the Southern Flinders Ranges Development Board.

Tourism

A Summary and Action Plan based on the Flinders Ranges and Outback SA Region Integrated Strategic Tourism Plan 2008-14.

The Southern Flinders Regional Tourism Authority (SFRTA) seek to develop a best practice tourism website. This website will promote the southern Flinders Ranges region as the destination for cycling experiences. Applications to undertake this project are to be submitted in writing to Stephen Schwer, Tourism Development Officer with the SFRTA, by e-mail to sschwer@sfrdb.com.au by no later than Close of Business MONDAY 21 JUNE 2010.
